Engaging Global Offices in a Year-Long
60th Anniversary Celebration
Project Overview
In 2018, RTI International celebrated 60 years of advancing research to improve the human condition. The executive leadership team wanted to commemorate the milestone with a year-long series of global events and initiatives that highlighted RTI’s history, achievements, and future vision.
The Challenge
RTI needed a central hub to keep staff, partners, and stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the anniversary year. The website had to be visually celebratory, easy to update, and flexible enough to support multiple phases of content and events.
The Solution
I worked with the corporate communications department to design a website to keep everyone engaged in each celebratory phase. I wrote the HTML and CSS with the help of the Foundation for Sites CSS framework, then a colleague used Cold Fusion to implement the site's back end.
Basic wireframe with red text to call attention to needed content
High fidelity wireframe to obtain sign-off on design before coding
Home page with featured content carousel and social media gallery
Image gallery - thumbnails open to full-screen light box
Cookbook with recipes submitted by employees from offices around the world
Interactive map that launches a gallery of photos and videos from each office location's anniversary celebration
Archive of articles detailing important moments in RTI International's history
Interactive trivia game about RTI International's history
Impact and Recognition
The site served as the central hub for anniversary content, event schedules, multimedia, and employee engagement throughout the 60th year. After the year was over, an informational kiosk was installed in the lobby of global headquarters so visitors could continue to view the website content.
The 60th anniversary brand, including the website, won a 2020 American Inhouse Design Award in the branding and identity programs category.
